Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on 100 Days Until the Sherbrooke 2013 Canada Summer Games
OTTAWA, April 24, 2013 /CNW/ - With just 100 days until Sherbrooke welcomes our country's top young athletes to the Canada Summer Games, excitement is building in the host community and across the country.
Our Government is a proud supporter of the Canada Games, which play an important role in developing young Canadian athletes for podium success on the international stage. The Canada Games provide future members of our country's national teams with valuable training and competition experience. Many of our top Olympians and Paralympians—including Alexandre Despatie in diving, Adam Van Koeverden in kayaking, and Valérie Grand'Maison in swimming—have competed in the Canada Summer Games.
As Minister of State (Sport), I would like to congratulate the organizers and volunteers in Sherbrooke on your efforts in preparing to host the 2013 Canada Summer Games. I also congratulate all the athletes who have qualified to represent their province or territory at the Games. I offer best wishes for success on behalf of the Government of Canada.
