Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), Congratulating Benoît Huot on Winning Canada's First Gold Medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Summer Games
LONDON, UK, Aug. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to extend my most heartfelt congratulations to Benoît Huot on winning Canada's first medal and first gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Summer Games today.
Benoît Huot, from Montreal, Quebec, earned his gold medal in the 200 metre individual medley in world record time on the first day of competition. This is his 9th career Paralympic gold medal.
Benoît's outstanding performance reminds us that Canada is a top sporting nation, and our Government is proud to support our athletes with the tools they need to reach the podium at every possible opportunity.
Today, Canadians across our country are filled with pride and admiration at Benoît's incredible talent, drive, and strength as we celebrate this prestigious moment in his sport career.
