Statement by Sarah Stephens on Release of Alan Gross
WASHINGTON, Dec. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Responding to Cuba's release of USAID contractor Alan Gross and to reports that the U.S. will release three Cuban spies imprisoned since 2001, Sarah Stephens, executive director of the Center for Democracy in the Americas (CDA), said:
"This deal is the biggest diplomatic breakthrough between Cuba and the U.S. in 55 years. This means our countries can work together on issues that affect both nations' interests and put the results of this breakthrough to work in practical ways. On a personal level, this is a wonderful day for the families who have been separated far too long. Last, I hope and believe that there will be a lot of support for this in Congress, since Alan Gross's freedom clears away what Congress has called the greatest obstacle to progress on Cuba policy."
Sarah can be contacted through Simone Duval (202-234-5506) at the CDA office in Washington, DC. You can learn more about CDA at our website.
