Statement by Samsung on Department of Commerce Determination on Refrigerators
RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J., March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Commerce Department today determined an affirmative dumping margin of 5.16% for Samsung bottom-mount refrigerators imported from South Korea, and an affirmative dumping rate of 15.95% for refrigerators imported from Mexico. The following is a statement from Samsung:
Samsung is disappointed with the U.S. Department of Commerce determination.
The Department's calculation is based on flawed methodologies including targeted dumping and zeroing, which have been found in several instances to violate World Trade Organization rules upon which U.S. laws are based. The use of zeroing created an antidumping margin where dumping did not occur. We are disappointed that the Commerce Department continues to use this discredited methodology.
Although Samsung will do everything we can to mitigate any impact of this decision on our business and customers, American consumers stand to lose the most from today's determination.
Samsung will continue to compete in the U.S. market, and we will deliver products that meet the highest standards in design, performance, and quality. We have a long-term commitment to our home appliance business in the United States.
