Statement by President Hansen on the Retirement of Change to Win Chair Anna Burger
WASHINGTON, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- "Anna Burger, Chair of Change to Win and Secretary-Treasurer of sister union the Service Employees International Union, announced her retirement today. Burger was the first Chair of the 5.5-million member labor federation, which was established in 2005.
"Change to Win will always be grateful for Anna's leadership and vision as the first Chair of Change to Win. Over the past five years, our member unions have worked together in new and strategic ways to help workers in all our industries make breakthroughs in organizing and look at ways to level the playing field for workers. From our early endorsement of and widespread mobilization for Barack Obama to our work to see health care reform and other protections for workers passed, Change to Win has established itself under Anna's stewardship as a serious proponent of restoring the American Dream for America's workers.
"The Leadership Council of Change to Win will meet in the next few days to discuss a succession plan to continue to build on the strong foundation left by Burger. "
