Statement by DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts on the Mayor's Budget
NEW YORK, June 27, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released today by District Council 37:
While we are still analyzing the details of the budget, it is clear that the attitude of this Administration during recent budget negotiations hinges on pitting one group of workers against another, while failing to adopt reasonable solutions to the City's fiscal problems that would improve our economic outlook not only for this fiscal year but for years to come.
The Administration has ignored the $10 billion contract budget which continues to grow despite being mired in scandal that has resulted in the arrest of 11 contractors and the fraudulent waste of over $700 million dollars. The Administration has also failed to force wealthy businesses to pay millions in taxes and fees legally owed to the City.
District Council 37 is New York City's largest public employee union, with 125,000 members and 50,000 retirees.
