Statement - Minister Blaney condemns recent message released by ISIS
OTTAWA, May 15, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement today condemning a message released by ISIS threatening Canada and its allies.
"Once again, ISIS has shown its horrific and barbarous nature by calling for attacks on Canadian soil. ISIS and the international jihadist movement have declared war on Canada and our Allies – simply because of the way we live and the freedoms we enjoy.
We will not be intimated by these jihadi terrorists and we will not sit on the sidelines.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Harper, we are instead joining our Allies in supporting the international coalition in the fight to degrade and defeat ISIS.
The most recent report from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service reiterated that terrorism remains the most significant threat to Canada's national security. That is why our Government has introduced the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2015 in order to further protect Canadians against jihadi terrorists by giving our police the tools they need to help prevent terrorist attacks in Canada."
