Statement - Minister Blaney commends police officers and launches National Police Week
OTTAWA, May 11, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued the following statement to launch National Police Week.
"As Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, the safety and security of Canadians is of paramount importance to me – all Canadians have the right to feel safe in their homes and communities.
Over the past year, several events have profoundly touched Canadians and reminded us of the essential role police officers in helping keep Canadians safe. These events have also been harsh reminders of the very real dangers officers face in carrying out their duties, and the sacrifices that they and their families make, day in and day out, on our behalf.
On behalf of our Government, and all Canadians, I thank our police officers for the tremendous contributions they make towards ensuring we can continue to live in a safe society. Canadian police officers are amongst the most highly skilled and trained in the world. They are incredibly passionate and committed to their work, which touches on so many aspects of our lives.
During National Police Week, let's take the opportunity to think about the important contributions police officers make to our society. The dedication and professionalism these men and women bring to their jobs every day can be an inspiration to us all."
