State Tax Notes Announces its First Annual Awards Edition
Chooses Joe Crosby, Former Top Official With Council On State Taxation,
As Its First "Person Of The Year"FALLS CHURCH, Va., Dec. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- State Tax Notes, a weekly magazine of the non-profit Tax Analysts, announced today that it has chosen Joe Crosby, until recently a top official with the Council On State Taxation, as its 2011 "Person of the Year" for his influential work in the field of state taxation.
With its December 5 edition, the magazine inaugurated its new annual awards issue, which also names the "Tax Lawyer of the Year," the "Organization of the Year," and the "Tax Administrator of the Year." State Tax Notes also provides a "top ten" list for each category.
After Crosby, who is now a principal with MultiState Associates Inc., others of the top 10 individuals who most influenced tax policy and practice are Nick Johnson and Michael Mazerov of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities; Joe Huddleston of the Multistate Tax Commission; and Doug Lindholm of the Council On State Taxation.
The "Tax Lawyer of the Year" is Jeff Friedman, a partner in the Washington office of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP. Other top tax lawyers include Stephen Kranz, also of Sutherland Asbill; Art Rosen of McDermott, Will & Emery LLP; and Kyle Sollie of Reed Smith LLP.
The "Organization of the Year" is the Tax Foundation. Others top organizations include the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, National Conference of State Legislatures, Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, and Direct Marketing Association.
The "Tax Administrator of the Year" is Margaret "Missy" Fulton, the assistant commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Revenue. Other top administrators include Bruce Johnson, chair of the Utah State Tax Commission; Linda Tanton, Maryland's deputy comptroller; and Craig Burns, commissioner of the Virginia Department of Taxation.
