State of New York Awards Questar Assessment, Inc., New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test Contract

APPLE VALLEY, Minn., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Questar Assessment, Inc. (www.QuestarAI.com), a leading educational assessment provider for states, school districts, and higher education institutions, has announced a contract award from the New York State Education Department for the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT). This assessment program measures annual progress toward English proficiency of students classified as being limited English proficient/English language learners (LEP/ELL), and will address Title III program accountability requirements set forth with the No Child Left Behind Act. An estimated 260,000 New York students in grades K–12 will participate in the program next year.

Questar's 4-year contract for the NYSESLAT assessment begins with the 2010–2011 school year and includes development, field testing, and scoring of new items during the first two years of the contract. Questar offers extensive experience in ELL assessments and scoring and currently conducts and scores state ELL programs for Florida, Idaho, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, and Utah.
