State of Mississippi Awards Questar Assessment Inc. a Multi-Year Contract to Provide State Summative Assessments
MINNEAPOLIS, July 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mississippi State Board of Education has chosen Questar Assessment Inc. as its statewide summative assessment provider for grades 3–8 and several End-of-Course assessments. Over the course of the contract, the company will ultimately be responsible for the program management, development, administration, scoring, reporting and analysis of the state's grades 3–8 English language arts and mathematic summative assessments, as well as End-of-Course assessments for English II and Algebra I. The contract also includes an option to for the state to add Geometry and Algebra II assessments.

The assessment program will be delivered using Nextera, Questar's third-generation online assessment system that is highly reliable, scalable, and secure, and features an intuitive, easy-to-use interface. Aligned to Questar's commitment to open standards and student accessibility, Nextera has been awarded the APIP v1 Content Package Conformance and the APIP v1 Delivery Conformance by the IMS Global Learning Consortium's QTI (Question and Test Interoperability)/APIP (Accessible Protocol) Alliance, based on the system's number of student accommodations and its level of compatibility with third-party test items. The assessments will also be available by request via paper-and pencil to accommodate students' needs.
In the past five years, Questar Assessment has provided summative assessment services including End-of-Course, Alternate and English Language proficiency exams to 33 states and the District of Columbia, and is responsible for test administrations of millions of students annually. This engagement marks Mississippi as the 34th state to which Questar will have provided assessment services.
