State Museum of Pennsylvania Announces Juried Photo Exhibit, Call for Entries
Modern Architecture Photo Exhibit Part of 50th Anniversary of State Museum and Archives Complex, Harrisburg
HARRISBURG, Pa., March 4, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) today announced the Pennsylvania Modern Architecture Juried Photo Exhibit which will run from October 25, 2015 through February 28, 2016 at The State Museum of Pennsylvania.
With the 50th anniversary of The State Museum and Archives Complex and its recent listing in the National Register of Historic Places, PHMC commemorates not only its particular architectural treasure, but also highlights the many buildings, furnishings and designs typical of the Midcentury Modernist style featured across Pennsylvania during the mid-20th century.
Beginning today and running through midnight June 30, PHMC is seeking submissions of photographs that display examples of mid-20th century architecture constructed in Pennsylvania between 1930 and 1980.
Entries may depict exteriors, interiors, and/or details of roadside architecture, schools, religious buildings, homes, commercial and recreational structures and other modern elements. Photos may have been taken anywhere in Pennsylvania since January 1, 2012.
The exhibition is open to Pennsylvania residents 18 years of age or older, and all skill levels are welcome, from photo enthusiast to professional.
Submissions will be accepted digitally. A link to entry information including rules, fees, deadlines and instructions can be found at statemuseumpa.org/photo-exhibit.

Dennis Hockman, Editor-in-Chief, Preservation magazine, and Senior Director Editorial+Creative, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Washington D.C.
Betsy Manning, Philadelphia-based photojournalist and featured photographer in the special exhibit "UnCommon Modern: A Pennsylvania Glossary of Midcentury Architecture," on display at The State Museum through April 26, 2015.
David Oresick, Executive Director, Silver Eye Center for Photography, Pittsburgh.
Awards, including $1,000 Best in Show and $500 for the Best Photograph of The State Museum and Archives Complex, will be announced on Sunday, October, 25, 2015 at the opening ceremony at The State Museum. Award-winning photographs will become the property of the PHMC and a part of PHMC's permanent collection.
