BLOOMINGTON, Ill., July 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Driver Feedback™ Instructor Edition, a free mobile app developed by State Farm®, is now available for both iOS and Android mobile devices. The app is designed to help driver education instructors access, record, organize and monitor the progress of their students during behind-the-wheel instruction, and helps parents stay informed of their teens' driving results.
Available from the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android) at no charge, the app builds on the functionality of Driver Feedback™, released by State Farm in 2011.
The instructor edition provides customized features that help instructors manage multiple students or classes, record notes, and download driving data for more detailed analysis. The app calculates each trip a driver makes and delivers an overall trip score. It also measures individual scores for three key driving behaviors, or the ABCs of driving:
Acceleration
Braking
Cornering
The better the driving, the higher the score. As students master slow and smooth acceleration, braking and cornering, their scores increase. Students may track their own progress over time and strive to improve upon their previous driving performance.
Individual data can be texted or emailed to students and parents to reinforce positive behaviors, celebrate successes and identify areas that need improvement or additional practice.
"The Driver Feedback Instructor Edition app is an excellent tool that allows you to provide detailed feedback to students in real-time," said Neil Sanders, a driver education instructor at Normal Community High School in Normal, Ill. "I like how it records students' progress each time they drive and then gives you the capability to go back and compare previous trips to show student growth."
Sanders served as an advisor and tester during the development of the app.
Offering driver education instructors a more accurate and organized way to identify student driving behaviors, the Driver Feedback Instructor Edition app provides objective scoring of driving behaviors and tracks student progress.
As the nation's leading auto insurer, State Farm believes providing detailed information about driving performance will help instructors document and increase the rate of student learning and competency. Crashes remain the No. 1 killer of teens and the first year behind the wheel is the most dangerous.
The Driver Feedback Instructor Edition app also helps driver education professionals teach new teen drivers that safe driving is a life-long habit that starts with them. By adopting safe driving habits, like driving 2N2®: 2 eyes on the road, 2 hands on the wheel, every teen has the power to make a difference when they drive or ride as a passenger.
State Farm is committed to preventing teen crashes, reducing injuries and saving lives.
