State Farm® Named Corporation of the Year by National Society of Hispanic MBAs
BLOOMINGTON, Ill., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- State Farm is winner of the 2010 Brilliante Award for Corporation of the Year.
The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) is recognizing State Farm for making a difference in the Hispanic community. This recognition is given to corporations that have a proven track record of success in recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce, and supporting community initiatives.
State Farm today has more than 4,900 bilingual agent offices across the U.S. and is the number one insurer of cars and homes in the U.S. general and Hispanic markets. Through civic engagement and educational efforts like State Farm es Para Mi™, State Farm builds relationships with Hispanic consumers at agent offices by providing resources that can help them: realize dreams, understand the U.S. citizenship process and attain educational opportunities.
"State Farm es Para Mi™ is not just a tag line; it is who we are and what we do," said Mike Fernandez, Vice President of Public Affairs at State Farm. "From encouraging civic engagement to helping Hispanic families plan for their child's education, State Farm is there assisting the community and providing advice."
Through a partnership with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, State Farm agent offices also provide an Educational Handbook and Financial Aid guide. These educational resources provide information on scholarships, fellowships, internships and financial aid information for Latino students. For more information visit statefarm.com/esparami.
"By reaching out to the community, we demonstrate that we are there to be a good neighbor, as well as provide solutions that help people in their everyday lives and in ways that help them achieve their American dream," Fernandez said.
The Brilliante Award for Excellence was established in 1989 by the NSHMBA to honor leaders whose work and contributions reflect the organization's mission "...to foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development in order to improve society."
Recipients of the Brilliante Award will be acknowledged during NSHMBA's annual conference and career expo, scheduled to be held this year Oct. 21-23 in Chicago. State Farm CEO Ed Rust Jr. will be a presenter during NSHMBA's annual conference. The event is expected to attract thousands of attendees.
The award recipients' photos and biographies will be featured in the fall 2010 edition of Hispanic MBA magazine to further recognize their outstanding efforts in the Hispanic community.
