State Farm® Friday Night Feats Video Contest in Search of High School Football's Biggest Moments
National Video Contest Kicks off Second Half to Find Best Plays from High School Football Season
BLOOMINGTON, Ill., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- State Farm® Insurance Companies kicked off the second half of Friday Night Feats, a national high school football video contest to find the biggest moments of the season, on Oct 8. At the end of the first half, twenty-six winners from around the country were selected as "Finalist Nominees", earning $2,500 for their respective schools and a chance at the $15,000 grand prize.
Fans, athletes and coaches still have a chance to show off their big plays by entering a video during the second half of the contest, which runs through Nov. 24. All eligible participants can submit videos to the State Farm Friday Night Feats site, FridayNightFeats.com, to be considered as the best Friday night feat of the 2010 high school football season. Local television stations are also eligible to submit plays on behalf of the school. The twenty-six second half videos that win $2,500 and advance as "Finalist Nominees" will again be determined by fan votes.
"I know what being there for your team during big moments is all about, and the first half winning videos represent those communities who came together to support their local schools and their big moment," said Doug Flutie, Heisman trophy winner and former NFL quarterback. "We're excited to see even more big plays during the second half of State Farm's Friday Night Feats contest. State Farm is proud to help support high school football and the communities around the country who show up to encourage their team every Friday night."
After the second half winners are announced, a panel of qualified judges will narrow the field of 52 Finalist Nominees down to the top 10 videos based on the "wow" factor, athleticism, impact of the play, and creativity of the video. Viewers have the final word on choosing the first, second and third place prize winners by voting for their favorite from Dec. 2 until Dec. 10. The winners will be announced on Dec. 13. Cash prizes for the top videos are $15,000 for the first prize, $10,000 for second place and $5,000 for third place.
In 2009, State Farm gave away $160,000 to 52 schools, including first place winner Mount Mansfield Union High School in Jericho, Vt. Until this year, Mount Mansfield had never had a home football game. The school and community decided to use the award money to finish construction on their first-ever home football field by purchasing a scoreboard, track and turf protective mats, the foundation for a press box and enough sideline and field equipment to get them ready for the first home game in September.
