State Farm Announces Enhancements to Steer Clear Mobile
Teen Driving App Comes to Android
BLOOMINGTON, Ill., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- State Farm® today released an update to its Steer Clear® Mobile application, bringing the capability to Android smart phones. The Steer Clear app provides young drivers a convenient way to complete the State Farm Steer Clear discount program and encourages supervised driving practice. The app also allows teen drivers to enter their state requirements for getting their licenses and help them track their required driving time.
State Farm first introduced the Steer Clear Mobile app on iPhone in February as a way to help reduce teen driving crashes, one of the company's overarching goals. The Steer Clear program is designed to align directly with Graduated Driver Licensing laws. These laws prove to be effective at reducing teen car crashes in part by lengthening the duration teens must drive while supervised, and requiring practice in various driving conditions and limiting certain distractions.
The Steer Clear Mobile app also allows qualifying parents and teens to take advantage of the Steer Clear Safe Driver Discount, which upon successful completion of the program can save participants with up to a 15-percent car insurance discount. People who use the app can also earn fun and engaging items like virtual bumper stickers that they can share on Facebook.
"Steer Clear promotes fundamental driver safety behaviors that have been identified through research and can help guide those important discussions between young drivers and their parents," said Laurette Stiles, Vice President – Strategic Resources at State Farm. "For families who have Android smart phones, we're excited to offer another convenient way to complete the program."
The updated Steer Clear Mobile app is available for immediate use by Android devices. New updates also are being made to the Steer Clear iPhone app that should be available soon in the Apple App Store. For details and to download the application, visit www.statefarm.com/steerclear.
