NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Melissa Joan Hart, Hunter Hayes, Rascal Flatts, Cam, and Sabrina Carpenter are among the stars joining forces with the American Red Cross to save lives from home fires. The 2Steps2Minutes campaign aims to keep families fire safe with two simple steps 1) practice your two-minute fire drill 2) check your smoke alarms each month. The program will culminate at this year's Tubeathon, a telethon for the digital age, on April 20 at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles.
New experiences and prizes have launched on 2Steps2Minutes partner platforms Prizeo and Charitybuzz. The one-of-a-kind offerings include tickets to see eight-time Entertainer of the Year Kenny Chesney in concert, a VIP concert experience with multi-platinum group Rascal Flatts, a day with the Fox Sports MLB Studio Team, two courtside seats to a Brooklyn Nets home game, and a meeting at the studio with award-winning songwriter and producer Marshall Altman. Fans also have the chance to win a number of prizes from five-time GRAMMY® nominated artist Hunter Hayes, including a signed guitar, personal Skype video call, or a VIP hang out with the singer at a show.
GRAMMY® and ACM® nominee whose platinum-certified hit, "Burning House," landed the #1 spot on country airplay and video charts, Cam, American Idol Season 10 runner up Lauren Alaina, singer/songwriter Dakota Bradley, and Marty Roe from award winning country music group Diamond Rio will all share personal home fire stories in a new 2Steps2Minutes PSA launching this week.
"People think a home fire is something that will happen to somebody else," said Russ Paulsen, executive director of community preparedness at the Red Cross. "But these stars know it can happen to anyone, so we all need to take two simple steps to keep our families safe. Fire drills aren't just for school."
As revealed exclusively by People.com, actress Melissa Joan Hart has designed a limited edition kids' tee which features a frog with the phrase "Hop to it,"as a fun way for kids to remember their two-minute escape plan.
Additionally, Reveal Project has launched a new limited edition "SMOKE AND FIRE" t-shirt designed by actress and Hollywood Records artist Sabrina Carpenter, after her latest single of the same name. Carpenter is best known for her role as Maya Hart on Disney Channel's Girl Meets World and debut album "Eyes Wide Open," which released in 2015. Her design joins other 2Steps2Minutes talent Troye Sivan, Alli Simpson and Kelsea Ballerini to further bring social purpose to online shopping and raise funds to benefit the Red Cross.
YouTube sensations and music artists Louisa Wendorff and Megan Davies are each lending their voice to the campaign along with Family Fun Pack, who all have new content now live on their respected platforms. Influencers Bratayley and The Holderness Family have also created video content, available now on their sites, aimed at educating families and children on the importance of fire safety.
Additionally, a number of stars have joined the 2Steps2Minutes campaign and shown their support on social media including Jenny McCarthy, Kate Flannery, Madison Pettis, Nancy O'Dell, and Renee Young.
The American Red Cross responds to nearly 66,000 disasters a year, the vast majority of which are home fires. On an average day, seven people die and 36 are injured from a home fire, resulting in over $7 billion in property damages each year. To combat this, in less than 18 months, the Red Cross and its partners have installed over 264,000 free smoke alarms in homes across 4,500 cities.
