Star Career Academy Students To Cater NYCETC Opportunity Awards Event

NEW YORK, May 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 20 Star Career Academy students from the school's Manhattan campus will work behind the scenes and front of the house at the New York City Employment & Training Coalition's Opportunity Awards event, scheduled June 18 from 6-8 p.m. at the 32BJ SEIU Headquarters at 25 W. 18th Street. 

Approximately 15 Culinary students and eight Hotel and Restaurant Management students will work with a chef instructor preparing a variety of passed and stationary hors d'oeuvres for this event. Preparation begins two days before the event and is finished in the kitchen on site.  A hotel instructor supervises Hotel and Restaurant Management students who serve all the food, replenish platters and serve as bartenders for the event.

Star Career Academy has offered catering and serving for this event for three years, acting as the only caterer at this event.

They really grasp how much planning and organization it takes to pull off something like this and they love it. Hotel students have to coordinate with a chef/kitchen to make sure all platters stay replenished and they have to know the items that they are serving so they can tell people at the event. In addition, they have to implement all that they learn here with customer service and professionalism. It is a well-coordinated catering event that is a great experience for all the students involved from different programs to see how a real catering event comes together."
