RESTON, Va., Aug. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Last Friday afternoon, Stanley Martin Homes presented a newly renovated house to Northern Virginia Family Services (NVFS), an organization that provides housing, job training, and health care services to families in need. Stanley Martin worked in conjunction with HomeAid Northern Virginia, a consortium of builders and contractors that donate resources and labor to offset the costs of constructing and/or renovating shelters and transitional housing. This particular home, in Dale City, Virginia was retrofitted to accommodate one large family or two smaller families, who can live independently in the space; one family upstairs with the other downstairs.

The home was an older structure with significant signs of wear and tear, as it's been used by NVFS for years. The necessary improvements were too costly for NVFS to absorb, which is why HomeAid Northern Virginia and Stanley Martin stepped in. The goal of the project was three-fold; to completely renovate the home from its existing condition into an updated, high performance home; to supply upgraded interior and exterior features of which its residents can be proud; and to present a home that provides safety and stability, as well as a source of inspiration for those living in it. More specifically, this renovation involved an extensive scope of work, which included a new roof, exterior siding, interior and exterior paint, appliances, bathrooms, flooring, kitchen cabinetry, light fixtures, switches, outlets, furnishings, concrete driveway, lead walk, and landscaping.
This is Stanley Martin's 6th shelter project and according to Stanley Martin's President, Steve Alloy, "47 companies donated labor and materials. It was the largest participation of Trades Council Members ever." Stanley Martin's Vice President of Construction, Michael Cleary, oversaw the renovation of the Dale City home and shared this with their trade partners, "you teamed together to re-model a "special" home that will last for generations. All of this was made possible because of your exceptional generosity, contributions, and commitment to giving back to our communities."
Stanley Martin is extremely pleased to be able to participate in such meaningful work and sends a tremendous message of thanks to all of its trade partners, as without them, none of this would be possible.
