STA to Host Meet & Greet, BBQ and School Bus Safety Roadeo With Marion County School District Transportation Personnel
OCALA, Fla., July 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
WHAT: Over 100+ Marion County school bus drivers, transportation personnel and their families will join Student Transportation of America (STA) employees and executives next week at a special Meet and Greet to discuss the company's proposal to the Marion County School Board and answer questions. The event will include a BBQ and School Bus Driver Safety Roadeo where drivers will put their driving and safety skills to the test while they learn about the STA family. Roadeo prizes include $250 for first place, $125 for second, $50 for third with gift cards from local Ocala-area vendors for runners up. STA Education Foundation representatives also will be on hand to contribute a $1,000 cash donation to "Operation: Stuff the Bus," the annual countywide drive to collect school supplies and financial contributions for Marion County's homeless students.
BACKGROUND: After a lengthy RFP process, STA is the transportation provider recommended by the Marion County School Board's appointed Selection Committee. STA has offered $6 million in immediate cash for the fleet and an additional $1 million cash for any budget reductions. According to school officials, it will generate $2.6 million in annual operating cost savings plus another $2.5 million from proposed capital outlays. The company also will bring in over 100 brand new state-of-the-art school vehicles at an added investment of $7 million in the first year of the five-year contract. The matter was scheduled for a Board vote on June 28 but was "tabled" until July 26. STA currently serves Duval County, Fla. with nearly 300 vehicles and is highly regarded by school officials there.
