St. Thomas University Commencement Features Archbishop Favalora as Keynote Speaker
MIAMI, May 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A new Class of 2010 group of leaders will graduate Saturday, May 15, 2010 at St. Thomas University's Fernandez Family Center for Leadership and Wellness. Despite the national economy's challenges, students are looking forward to a bright future thanks to the experience of a private, small-class size university where their analytical, teamwork, entrepreneurial and other valuable skills were individually developed for four years.
This year's Law School commencement ceremony starts at 9:00 a.m. The event's keynote speaker is Cuban-born, Florida Supreme Court Justice Jorge Labarga. Commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students from the other 5 Schools – Biscayne College, School of Business, School of Leadership Studies, School of Science, Technology and Engineering Management, and School of Theology and Ministry – will start at 2:00 p.m.
"St. Thomas' graduates become leaders in many different paths. The value of faith-based higher education translates into ethical thinking and transformational project development," said St. Thomas University President Monsignor Franklyn M. Casale.
"St. Thomas is not only known for 'Developing Leaders for Life' through academic pursuits. Our students train deaf students around the globe as well as counseling and health care staff in hospitals; impact Haiti towns through committed faculty who teach entrepreneurship courses that help young Haitians rebuild their country; and open new career possibilities in the U.S. sports arena through innovative business models developed by our sports administration graduates."
This year, a much beloved figure in South Florida will inspire the graduates as he bids farewell. Metropolitan Archbishop of Miami John C. Favalora will be the keynote speaker at the 2:00 p.m. commencement ceremony. As the Archbishop moves into his retirement years, he will enjoy very fond memories of St. Thomas University, among them students' glowing faces as he has seen them graduate for almost sixteen years and those who remain his friends forever, numerous faculty and laity members who have dedicated many years' hard work to the University.
