St. Mary's Receives Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, Among Top Five Percent of Hospitals in Nation
St. Mary's achieves prestigious award for second year in a row
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dignity Health St. Mary's Medical Center has received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. This is the second consecutive year St. Mary's has received this award, which recognizes St. Mary's as among the top five percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for clinical performance.
Hospitals receiving the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence demonstrated better than expected quality care. For patients undergoing treatment for at least 21 common conditions and procedures at these hospitals, this translates to a statistically significant lower likelihood of death or complications when compared to all other hospitals.
St. Mary's is one of only 261 hospitals in the nation to receive the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence in 2015. As a recipient, St. Mary's is a stand out among other hospitals for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care.
During the 2015 study period (2011-2013), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 of the most common inpatient conditions and procedures—as measured by objective clinical outcomes performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications). According to Healthgrades, hospitals who achieve the Clinical Excellence award have embedded quality into their culture.
"We are pleased that St. Mary's has been recognized as a Distinguished Hospital by Healthgrades for a second consecutive year," said Anna Cheung, president/CEO of St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco. "Such recognition is a true testament to the exceptional patient care that our staff, nurses, physicians and leadership team continuously provide. I am most grateful to our physicians and care providers."
