St. Lucia Set To Release Full-Length Debut "When The Night" On October 8 Via Neon Gold/Columbia Records

NEW YORK, July 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Records -- Brooklyn-based synth-pop outfit St. Lucia will release their highly anticipated full-length debut, When The Night, on October 8 via Neon Gold/Columbia Records. The album, which expands upon St. Lucia's unique brand of dreamy, nostalgic pop, was produced by the band's own Jean-Philip Grobler, with additional production and mixing from Chris Zane (Passion Pit), Rich Costey (Muse, Foo Fighters) and Andy Baldwin. Listen to a brand new track "Elevate" here: https://soundcloud.com/st-lucia/elevate/.
The brainchild of South African-bred Jean-Philip Grobler, St. Lucia's previous releases—2012's "September" EP and self-titled EP—transported listeners to decades past while staying firmly rooted in the present, drawing out melodic bravado and euphoric energy while discarding any trace of the saccharine. Complex Magazine named the group one of "20 New Bands To Watch Out For," while the Onion/A.V. Club describes their music as "pop perfection." In addition, SPIN raves that St. Lucia's "billowy textures and soaring choruses offer a potent elixir of tropical breezes and distilled sunshine." The band's song "All Eyes On You" was recently featured in national television campaigns for both Victoria's Secret and Taco Bell.
To celebrate the release of When The Night, St. Lucia has announced a fall tour with Two Door Cinema Club, which kicks off October 2 at Philadelphia's Tower Theatre. The cross-country trek will continue through mid-November. St. Lucia will also perform at this year's Lollapalooza festival in Chicago on Saturday, August 3, as well as a special Lollapalooza after-show that same evening at Lincoln Hall alongside labelmates HAIM (see below for full itinerary). The band has recently toured with Ellie Goulding and Charli XCX, not to mention shared stages with fun., Young The Giant, The Shins and others.
In addition, Pandora has featured St. Lucia in its first-ever "Toyota Sessions." The program—which highlights exciting emerging artists—explores the evolution of St. Lucia's music through in-depth interviews, exclusive live tracks, and behind-the-scenes videos. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Jean-Philip Grobler grew up performing with the Drakensberg Boys Choir School, learning everything from Bach to minimalist opera. St. Lucia was born out of a moment in early 2010 when Grobler was looking to the past for inspiration. Growing frustrated with a rock project that was starting to feel forced, he delved back into the music that had first inspired him: Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Gabriel and other songs from his youth. After setting up shop in a small Williamsburg studio in Brooklyn, Grobler began to experiment with these new influences and open the lid on his new project. Teaming up with friends Nick Brown, Ross Clark, Nicky Paul and Patricia Beranek to perform live, the newly formed group was signed to HeavyRoc Music after grabbing the attention of NYC production team The Knocks. Shortly after, St. Lucia partnered with Columbia imprint Neon Gold Records.
Grobler is also heavily involved in projects outside of St. Lucia. He serves as producer for the debut LP by Brooklyn-based labelmates HAERTS, remixing songs for bands including Passion Pit, Foster the People and Charli XCX, and collaborating with DJs ranging from The Knocks to RAC.
