St. Louis Rams Fans Score Improved Wireless Connectivity With Verizon And Mobilitie
Network Enhancements at Edward Jones Dome Provide Excellent Wireless Experience; Leads to Increase of 2.5 times in Mobile Traffic
ST. LOUIS, Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless and Mobilitie today announced significant improvements to the wireless network at Edward Jones Dome, home of the St. Louis Rams. The enhancements led to near record mobile data traffic during last-night's game, as the network handled 2.5 times more traffic than the average event.
Verizon Wireless recently installed their network system, tapping into Mobilitie's DAS infrastructure. The DAS includes separate antennas located throughout the venue to boost network strength and capacity, which distributes the cell site signal in a manner that provides superior performance and capacity gains over a normal cell site serving the track from outside the venue.
"People attending events today expect an excellent wireless experience whenever they're in a stadium," said Brendan Fallis, president—Kansas/Missouri Region, Verizon Wireless. "We are very pleased to support fans of the St. Louis Rams and other events at the Edward Jones Dome with the excellent wireless experience they've come to expect from Verizon Wireless."
The Edward Jones Dome hosts professional football and various concerts, conventions, competitions and public shows. Capable of seating up to 67,224 people, the Edward Jones Dome includes 120 suites and 6,773 club seats. Most of the fans and guests attending events at the facility are using smartphones to share their experience, including sending picture messages, texting or sharing the moment on social media.
"The experience is beyond the game or event itself these days," said Christos Karmis, president of Mobilitie. "Fans want to share their experiences with friends and family, wherever they are. With the DAS system at Edward Jones Dome, fans can stay connected, share information via their social channels, and enjoy the in-venue experience without having to worry about crowded networks."
Earlier this year, Mobilitie entered into an agreement with the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission (SLCVC) and Regional Sports Authority (RSA) to install a high performance Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at Edward Jones Dome to improve wireless service and provide faster mobile connectivity during large events held at the facility, including football games. As the industry leader in deploying and operating high density neutral host wireless networks across sporting and entertainment venues, Mobilitie provides high capacity wireless infrastructure across all professional sports leagues, including the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, and MLS, among others.
Verizon Wireless introduced its 4G LTE network in Missouri in 2010. Verizon Wireless is constantly evolving its network to meet necessary demand to remain the nation's largest and most reliable. In May, Verizon Wireless announced the introduction of XLTE. XLTE is a consumer-friendly way of describing the added capacity (bandwidth) that is being delivered to Verizon Wireless customers by activating our 4G LTE service on our AWS spectrum.
Verizon Wireless now has XLTE covered in more than 400 markets. On August 19, 2014, RootMetrics released its second U.S. State RootScore® Reports and Verizon Wireless received the highest award for overall network performance in Missouri.
