St. Jude Children's Research Hospital postdoctoral fellow named Pew Latin American Fellow
MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 13, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Andres Herrada, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Immunology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, has been named a Pew Latin American Fellow in the Biomedical Sciences by The Pew Charitable Trusts. He is one of 10 fellows named.
Established in 1991, The Pew Latin American Fellows Program provides support to advance recipients' research, allowing them to study with U.S. scientists and to help establish laboratories in their home countries. The program also provides each fellow with salary support for two years of postdoctoral training in the laboratory of an established researcher in the United States.
A native of Chile, Herrada received a degree in biochemistry from Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso and a doctorate in biological sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in Santiago. In 2011, he began postdoctoral studies at Fundación Ciencia Para La Vida in Santiago.
With a focus on regulatory T cells in Type 1 diabetes, Herrada began at St. Jude in August 2012 and works in the laboratory of Dario Vignali, Ph.D., vice chair of the St. Jude Immunology department.
