St. Jude Children's Research Hospital named to Fortune magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" for sixth consecutive year
The hospital ranks top third of Fortune's list, an indication of commitment to employees' satisfaction and workplace environment.
MEMPHIS, Tenn., March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the sixth consecutive year, Fortune magazine has recognized St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by naming the hospital to its "100 Best Companies to Work For" list.
The annual list recognizes companies with exceptional workplace cultures that foster high employee morale and dedication. Companies choosing to participate in the selection process are graded based on employee surveys about their employer's programs and practices.
According to this year's survey, 94 percent of St. Jude employees believe the hospital is a "Great Place to Work" and 93 percent said they have pride in the work they do. St. Jude currently has more than 4,000 employees on its campus in the heart of Memphis.
"Regardless of title or position, every employee is essential to achieving our lifesaving mission," said James R. Downing, M.D., St. Jude president and chief executive officer. "We're fortunate to have such dedicated and compassionate people who commit their time, energy and talent each day to helping children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases."
St. Jude has initiated employee-inspired programs to foster a successful workplace culture. The hospital has created classes and other programs for career and personal development. St. Jude Select, a yearlong leadership program for non-management employees, develops individuals through seminars, team-building exercises, networking and exposure to senior leadership. The St. Jude Leadership Academy provides a formal program to enhance the skills of the hospital's mid-level managers. St. Jude also offers a host of professional development courses for a variety of other employee needs.
In addition to professional development, St. Jude offers a variety of benefits for employees including college tuition assistance, identity theft protection service, adoption assistance, an on-site credit union, paid maternity leave and a sick-leave donation bank.
"We attract the brightest minds from all over the world, and we feel it's important to maintain a high level of satisfaction for our employees in order to support our position as a worldwide leader in pediatric cancer research and treatment," said Dana Bottenfield, vice president of Human Resources. "Our goal is to bring the most talented individuals to St. Jude and cultivate a dynamic workplace, so we can be successful in fulfilling the hospital's mission."
