St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® and CardCash partner to tap $1 billion unused gift card market for new donation program
Unwanted gift cards will now be accepted as donations through CardCash to support St. Jude in time for the holiday season
MEMPHIS, Tenn., Oct. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® and CardCash have joined forces to tap into $1 billion of unused gift cards to provide a new and simple way for consumers to generously donate unwanted gift cards to support the St. Jude mission: Finding cures. Saving children.®
CardCash, which offers a large and secure selection of discounted gift cards online, will provide a trade-in portal to offer customers the option of directly donating unwanted gift cards to St. Jude. The announcement comes on the heels of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and in anticipation of the 2018 holiday shopping season.
"It is important for St. Jude to continually explore new and innovative partnerships that help us continue to raise the funds needed to support the lifesaving mission that is so close to our hearts," said Richard Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. "We are excited to join forces with CardCash to offer this simple and direct donation method that allows unwanted gift cards to go toward ensuring that our patient families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food."
Consumers neglect to use over $1 billion worth of gift cards every year, forgotten in junk drawers or wallets, never to be redeemed. The collaboration aims to convert that wasted value into funds that support the mission of St. Jude while giving consumers another great way to donate during the holidays and beyond.
"I am thrilled to see how our employees have rallied around this new initiative," Elliot Bohm, CEO of CardCash said. "The entire CardCash office is fully onboard with the St. Jude mission of finding cures and saving children and we hope to share that message with our entire customer base as we approach our busiest time of year."
"We are honored to be working with St. Jude to assist them in their mission to cure childhood cancer," said Nathan Rantala, Director of Business Development at CardCash. "It is quite a thrill to use our business platforms for this great cause while providing our customers with such a simple and meaningful way to do something great."
CardCash accepts the donation of hundreds of consumers' favorite gift card brands. For more information, visit https://www.stjude.org/cardcash.
