St. Joseph Hospital's 2017 Circles of Life Fashion Show and Luncheon Benefits Cancer Research
Cancer Patients and Survivors Walked the Runway at St. Joseph Hospital's Annual Circles of Life Fashion Show and Luncheon Benefiting Cancer Research
ORANGE, Calif., July 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 700 people attended St. Joseph Hospital's annual Circles of Life Fashion Show and Luncheon on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the City National Grove of Anaheim. Guests enjoyed a champagne reception, silent auction, raffle drawings and a luncheon. The highlight of the day was the fashion show featuring cancer patients and survivors who courageously walked the runway. This year's event netted more than $160,000 for cancer research at the hospital's Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment.
St. Joseph Hospital's Cancer Research Program consists of a team of highly trained research professionals who review potential clinical trials for patients, as well as implement new trials. Clinical trials have proven beneficial not only to cancer treatment, but to cancer prevention as well. Ivan Turpin, MD, board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and event co-chair, explained the impact of cancer research.
"As a direct result of clinical research, more people are surviving cancer than ever before. And, at St. Joseph Hospital, we don't just want to treat cancer; we want to contribute to a cure," said Turpin.
National studies also suggest that patients who participate in clinical research in a multi-specialty care setting experience a longer and better quality of life. A former patient and model in this year's fashion show commented on why it is important for cancer patients to have access to comprehensive care.
"Everyone who goes through cancer wants the best doctors, best care, best technology and best facilities. And we have that in our backyard. We are blessed to have St. Joseph Hospital in our community," said Tanja Cebula, St. Joseph Hospital Foundation board member and 16-year cancer survivor.
St. Joseph Hospital is among the most active community hospitals in the area to participate in clinical trials for cancer. For more information, visit sjo.org/fashionshow2017.
