St. Joseph Healthcare Selects Nimbus Data's Gemini All-Flash Storage Array for Faster, More Efficient Virtualized Applications
Nimbus Data Helps St. Joseph Healthcare Deliver Improved Patient-Doctor Relations
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Jan. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Nimbus Data Systems, Inc., the leading provider of unified all-flash storage systems for enterprise and cloud infrastructure, today announced that St. Joseph Healthcare has selected its Gemini F620 all-flash array to support and host a fully virtualized desktop infrastructure (VDI).
Based in Bangor, Maine, St. Joseph Healthcare is committed to wellness promotion and holistic healing by providing healthcare services that embody compassion, competence and community. Looking for a cure to its ailing Windows XP desktops, St. Joseph's transitioned to hosting nearly 500 thin clients using Citrix XenDesktop. However, in order to support this new virtualized environment, St. Joseph's needed a high-performance, scalable storage solution that could withstand the demands of adding hundreds more clients to the VDI.
After researching the flash storage market, St. Joseph's selected a Nimbus Data F620 Gemini all-flash array for its ability to deliver extremely high IOPS while staying within its originally planned IT budget. Additionally, Nimbus Data provided a future-proofing platform, allowing St. Joseph to start with the capacity it needed and then seamlessly add more capacity as it rolled out more virtual desktops.
"The Gemini system is the ideal solution for our needs—it's fast, scalable and on-budget. We were able to use the array to deploy our first 200 virtual desktops and then later expand the same array to host the next 200 virtual desktops," said Bryan Grivois, Director of Technology and Information Security with St. Joseph Healthcare. "Even more importantly, we were able to deliver improved doctor-patient relations by reducing wait times for accessing patient records. Now using their virtualized desktop, doctors can quickly access the patient information they need anywhere, anytime."
Users reported that performance of their new virtual desktops was 4-5x better than what they were accustomed to seeing with their physical desktops. And because of the high-performance of the Gemini all-flash array, St. Joseph no longer experiences boot storm events when the virtual machines power on each morning.
"At Nimbus Data, we look beyond the performance benefits of our systems and truly partner with our customers to deliver the best solution to meet their storage needs," said Thomas Isakovich, CEO and Founder of Nimbus Data. "In this case, the true value of our Gemini all-flash storage array extended beyond the data center by bringing greater efficiency to the exam room."
