St. Joseph Center Celebrates Juneteenth with Three Esteemed African-American Women - Rep. Karen Bass, Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, and Dr. Va Lecia Adams Kellum - through a Conversation on Social Justice, Police Reform, and Homelessness in L.A.
LOS ANGELES, June 15, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of Juneteenth, homeless service provider St. Joseph Center will hold a special panel discussion with three esteemed African-American women leaders. The virtual conversation will address social justice, institutional racism, and homelessness in L.A.
While the coronavirus pandemic raged and racial tensions intensified, the homeless crisis in L.A. grew more than ever. A year later, we recognize that there is still work to do as Black Angelenos make up 8% of the population, yet 34% are homeless. Sustainable change will require an inclusive commitment to dismantle the racist structures that have prevented many of our neighbors of color from thriving.
Guest Panelists:
Dr. Va Lecia Adams Kellum
St. Joseph Center, President & CEO
Representative Karen Bass
Member of Congress & Lead Author of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act
Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell
Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Second District
The Juneteenth event held on June 19th will be moderated by 102.3 KJLH Radio Host, Kameron Greene.
This virtual event is free and open to the public by registering here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/158653056563
