St. George's University and Evergreen College Announce Medical and Veterinary Training Partnership
TORONTO and TRUE BLUE, Grenada, Sept. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- St. George's University and Evergreen College launched a new combined degree program that will allow qualified Evergreen undergraduate applicants to simultaneously receive an offer of admission from the medical or veterinary schools at St. George's.
"We look forward to welcoming Evergreen's best and brightest to our campus in Grenada," said Dr. G. Richard Olds, President and CEO of St. George's University. "This new partnership will allow promising students to start working toward careers in medicine or veterinary science from their very first day as undergraduates."
Interested students must apply to Evergreen and express their intent to pursue one of the combined degree programs. St. George's will consult with Evergreen to select suitable candidates and make offers for the combined program after conducting interviews.
Those who are accepted must complete the necessary science prerequisites at Evergreen and maintain a grade point average in those prerequisites of no less than 3.2.
Medical students will complete their first two years of medical training in Grenada, with an option to spend their first year in the United Kingdom through the Keith B. Taylor Global Scholars Program. They will then undertake two years of clinical training at SGU-affiliated hospitals in the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada.
Students pursuing degrees in veterinary medicine will study in Grenada for three years and spend their final clinical year at affiliated universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, or Australia.
Evergreen College joins dozens of institutions in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom that have partnered with St. George's to offer students interested in careers as doctors or veterinarians a streamlined way of pursuing their studies.
"We are excited to equip budding doctors and veterinarians with the skills they'll need to address Canada's most pressing health challenges," said Olds.
