LOS ANGELES, April 11, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteered-powered charity dedicated to funding childhood cancer research, thanks its thousands of committed volunteers from across the U.S. and around the world, whose efforts have raised more than $25 million in 2016.
Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week, April 10-16, is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. So far this year St. Baldrick's has had more than 5,600 people volunteer their time, talent, and in some cases their hair for the cause. All week long St. Baldrick's will share stories of its amazing supporters on the St. Baldrick's blog and social media, and will participate in a thank-a-thon to acknowledge the army of dedicated volunteers that make St. Baldrick's funding possible.
"We are thankful for our volunteers every day and we know the organization wouldn't stand here today as the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants without their continued support," said Kathleen Ruddy, CEO of the St. Baldrick's Foundation. "We have some of the most dedicated volunteers around. More than half of the people who participated with St. Baldrick's this year have volunteered their time with us for more than 7 years. Because of this unwavering support, St. Baldrick's is able to fund research to find cures and better treatments so all kids have a chance at a happy and healthy childhood."
