St. Anthony's Triathlon Calling Athletes to Register for 32nd Annual Race
Registration Begins for 2015 Events on Dec. 1, 2014
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The dates are set for the 32nd annual St. Anthony's Triathlon and now is the time for all athletes to register. Whether professional or novice, youngster or young at heart; there is an event for everyone during the Triathlon race weekend, April 24-26. Registration for all events opens Dec. 1, 2014.
St. Anthony's Triathlon Weekend includes:
- The International-Distance Triathlon – known for its outstanding professional field
- The Meek & Mighty Triathlon – a great training ground for novice adults and children who are just joining the exciting world of triathlons
- Sprint Triathlon, which made its debut in 2014 and featured slightly shorter distances than the Olympic-distance race, was added to the weekend of events
"The Sprint distance was quite popular for many of our athletes who want to push themselves a little beyond the Meek & Mighty," said Philip Lahaye, race director, St. Anthony's Triathlon. "We are happy to bring back all three races in 2015 and look forward to hosting athletes from around the corner and around the world."
The premier race event, which is known as the sport's first major race of the triathlon season, has always attracted a wide range of professional and amateur athletes including Olympic gold medalists, Ironman world champions and celebrity athletes. The Triathlon, which is entering its fifth year as a part of the World Triathlon Corporation's (WTC) 5150 Triathlon Series, is also one of the first WTC events of the year.
The sprint race followed the same course as the international-distance event but with shorter distances – a 750-meter swim, 20K bike and a 5K run.
More than 3,700 athletes participated in the events in 2014 from more than 40 states, the District of Columbia and 10 countries. The roster included more than 90 pro athletes who competed for a portion of the $53,000 prize purse.
