St. Anthony Foundation kicks off 24th annual Curbside Donation Drive

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- St. Anthony Foundation invites residents around the Bay Area to kick off the 24^th annual Curbside Donation Drive this Saturday, November 17^th by driving up and dropping off their donations of food, socks, and turkeys.  Volunteers, clad in bright red jackets, will be on hand to help drivers unload their donations. All donations collected go directly to San Francisco's neediest residents, fulfilling the agencies mission to feed, clothe, and lift the spirits of all those in need.

PG & E, the lead sponsor for the event, recruited volunteers to staff the first day of the Curbside Drive.  The volunteers from PG & E are also veterans of the United State military.  They represent a growing contingent of veterans who are willing to serve before and after their tour of duty.  Other individuals, civic groups, and corporations from around the Bay Area have also signed up to greet donors who drive their donations to St. Anthony's throughout the weeklong Curbside Drive. 

St. Anthony's relies heavily on the Curbside Drive to collect critical donations they use throughout the holiday season.  Organizers hope to surpass last year's goal of collecting over 1,000 turkeys for this year's Thanksgiving Meal.  Interim Executive Director, Barry Stenger, noted that, "People from around the Bay Area remind us year after year that they are willing to serve the poor at St. Anthony's.  Their willingness translates to hot meals, warm clothes, and a welcoming spirit of community during this special time of year."

For 60 years, St. Anthony's has offered a gateway out of poverty through a network of life-sustaining services. By addressing immediate needs such as hunger and clothing, as well as long term needs such as employment, drug and alcohol addiction, and physical and mental health, St. Anthony's supports people in need as they pursue training, work, sobriety, and purpose. St. Anthony's does not accept any federal, state, or local government support. We are entirely funded by private donations.
