SRI International to Host Wonder Dialogue on Developing the Scientists of Tomorrow

MENLO PARK, Calif., Oct. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- On Nov. 2 at 6 pm, Barbara Means, Ph.D., director of SRI International's Center for Technology in Learning, will join Bruce Alberts, Ph.D., editor of Science and former president of the National Academy of Sciences, in a dialogue focused on educational policies and practices needed to encourage the next generation of scientists, mathematicians, and technology innovators.  

Moira Gunn, host of National Public Radio's Tech Nation and BioTech Nation, will moderate the discussion, which will take place at SRI in Menlo Park.

The dialogue will take a critical look at what needs to happen to reverse the decline of science teaching in American schools and how to engage students in learning that is both rigorous and inspiring. Alberts and Means will examine current practices and offer recommendations for nurturing a new generation of innovators.

This free event is one of several Wonder Dialogues organized by the Bay Area Science Festival, 10 days of activities designed to engage Bay Area residents in a celebration of the region's scientific wonders, resources, and opportunities by exploring the role of science, engineering, and technology locally and around the world.
