SRI International and the National Disaster Resiliency Center Partner to Enhance First Responder Capabilities

MENLO PARK, Calif., Aug. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SRI International and the National Disaster Resiliency Center (NDRC) have signed a strategic alliance agreement to collaborate on new technologies, systems, and enhanced training capabilities to assist first responders during emergency and disaster situations. SRI will work with the NDRC to create, test, and commercialize solutions that will help federal, state, and local agencies prepare for, train, and manage crisis situations.

The objectives of this agreement include:

• Enhancing information management, disaster surveillance, and situational awareness tools, systems, and processes
• Developing next generation equipment and systems for emergency response and disaster management
• Facilitating training and analysis for federal, state, and local entities (including NGOs) with first responders using advanced 3D capabilities and technologies

Currently, SRI has a similar partner agreement with the Applied Science Foundation for Homeland Security (http://www.sri.com/news/releases/031711.html). SRI also has homeland security programs focused on maritime and port security, military and first responder interoperability training, cyber security, disaster resiliency, interoperable communications, and biometrics.

The NDRC plans to integrate teaching, training and research while also serving as a center for the response and recovery efforts in the event of a disaster. Its three major focus areas include logistical support, research, and learning, which are designed to improve preparedness, training, response, and recovery efforts. The NDRC will provide a collaborative public-private hub to coordinate regional, state, and national disaster response, while developing programs and technologies for widespread deployment.
