SRC's Aklus Shield System Selected for Next Phase of JUPITR Biosurveillance Program
The newly designed Aklus Shield "C-Model" system to be showcased at Eurosatory conference in June
SYRACUSE, N.Y., June 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SRC, Inc. was selected to move forward for initial deployment of Aklus Shield® J-Model biological defense systems in South Korea, as part of the Joint United States Forces Korea Portal and Integrated Threat Recognition (JUPITR) program.
JUPITR, a program led by the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense, and supported by the U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center, will provide unique biological detection capabilities to decrease soldier workload, lower operational costs, increase performance, and create a stronger biological defense capability throughout South Korea.
SRC was one of the contractors selected for Busan deployment following the recently completed government live agent testing of off-the-shelf aerosol biological sensors. During the first phase, SRC's Aklus Shield J-Model systems underwent testing in a variety of locations, such as Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland and the Key West Naval Air Station in Florida.
"SRC's Aklus Shield J-Model system was put through a series of rigorous tests in the first phase of the JUPITR program, and we've demonstrated the ability of our technology to meet the strict requirements of this project," said Paul Tremont (headshot), SRC's president and CEO. "We are proud to have been selected to participate in the next phase of the JUPITR effort."
In addition to the support SRC is providing to the JUPITR program, the company has been working on a lighter, smaller and more affordable biological threat detection system, coined the "C-Model." This system will be commercially available to customers needing biosurveillance capabilities for open or closed-air environments, such as industrial facilities, airports, shopping malls, stadiums, and other highly populated areas.
The Aklus Shield C-Model system is scheduled to be available for sale in May 2016. It will be on display at SRC's booth display located in Hall 5, booth H588 at the Eurosatory Defence and Security Exhibition in Paris, France, taking place from June 13 -17, 2016.
