SRA Supports Successful Design and Development of ENERGY STAR® Home Advisor Program
Program helps home owners identify energy efficient household improvements
FAIRFAX, Va., Feb. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- SRA International, Inc., a leading provider of IT solutions and professional services to government organizations, in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) ENERGY STAR® program, announced the successful release of the ENERGY STAR Home Advisor tool designed to help Americans save money and conserve energy by improving the energy efficiency of their homes.
The Home Advisor tool guides homeowners through a "do-it-yourself" energy assessment to create an ENERGY STAR home profile which then generates customized, prioritized recommendations for improvements. From these recommendations, users can create their own to-do lists of projects such as adding insulation to the attic or replacing an HVAC air filter.
The SRA team employed Agile practices to accurately define, develop, and test the logic for the complex requirements necessary to generate more than 150 distinct recommendations and a nearly infinite number of possible recommendation combinations for homeowners. The technologies and database design methods used to build this tool are based on big data best practices to help streamline future searching and reporting needs. This is an important initiative for the ENERGY STAR Residential Branch and lays the groundwork to extend the reach of the ENERGY STAR program, allowing for more engagement with homeowners in the existing homes market. More than 1,400 homeowners have already opened accounts since the Home Advisor tool was first launched.
John Ludecke, Vice President of SRA's Health and Civil business commented, "Since 2001 it has been our privilege to support the valuable mission of the EPA's ENERGY STAR program. The successful launch of the ENERGY STAR Home Advisor program underscores SRA's commitment to bringing the best people and best ideas together to help our customers meet their mission needs - in this case to help homeowners save money and energy by adopting the latest methods in home energy efficiency."
The EPA launched the ENERGY STAR Home Advisor tool in December 2014.
