Sr. Sharon Ann Walsh Accepts Position as Provincial Leader for the American Province of the Little Company of Mary Sisters and the Chairperson of the Board for the Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers
EVERGREEN PARK, Ill., Sept. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sr. Sharon Ann Walsh, L.C.M., has recently accepted the position as the Provincial Leader for the American Province of the Little Company of Mary Sisters. Her term begins on October 1, 2014. She also was appointed the new Chairperson of the Board for the Little Company of Mary Hospital Board of Directors this past July.
The Little Company of Mary is an International Congregation of Religious who have committed their lives to pray and care for the suffering and dying of the world. Founded by the Venerable Mary Potter in 1877, the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary arrived in Chicago in 1893. Here in the United States, the Sisters continue the tradition of their founder to care for and pray for the dying through their ministries of Catholic Healthcare. Their mission has made a profound impact on the communities they serve. Through the years, their relationships with employees, physicians our patients and members of the community have been significant.
Sr. Sharon Ann Walsh, L.C.M., entered the Little Company of Mary Congregation on September 24, 1956. She is a graduate of the Little Company of Mary School of Nursing and she earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa. Sr. Sharon Ann also completed studies in spirituality and theology at the Jesuit School of Theology in California, University of Notre Dame and Oblate School of Theology in Texas.
Sr. Sharon Ann was missioned at the Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, California, before becoming the Provincial Leader of the American Province of the Little Company of Mary Sisters in 1985. She then was appointed Assistant Congregational Leader in London, England from 1993 to 1999. Upon returning home to the United States, she was welcomed to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, where she worked in the Pastoral Care Department before becoming a Provincial Councilor for the American Province.

Sr. Sharon Ann Walsh takes on these new positions after the passing of Sr. Kathleen McIntyre, L.C.M. In 2001, Sr. Kathleen became the Chairperson of the Board of Directors and was appointed the Provincial leader for the American Province of the Little Company of Mary Sisters in 2006. She held both of these positions until she lost her battle with cancer in late April 2014.
