SPX Flow Technology to Combine Food and Beverage Engineering Facilities, and Enhance Capabilities of Its Innovation Center, in Soeborg, Denmark
Upgraded Facility to Serve as State-of-the-art Innovation and Customer TestingCenter
SOEBORG, Denmark and CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SPX Corporation (NYSE: SPW) today announced that its Flow Technology segment plans to combine two existing facilities, and build out the newly-integrated facility's equipment offerings and capabilities to upgrade its food and beverage processing Innovation Center in Soeborg, Denmark. The newly enhanced facility is expected to provide SPX customers with expanded food and beverage testing and lab capabilities, as well as engineering expertise and consultative services.
Plans call for SPX to expand its current Soeborg-based food and beverage customer test facility's capabilities with additional equipment and processes. This facility was first established by Denmark-based Anhydro, a leading provider of drying and evaporation processing solutions and technologies that was acquired by SPX in 2010. SPX will install testing systems from Gerstenberg Schroder, the Denmark-based process equipment company SPX acquired last year. The result will be a state-of-the-art engineering center and customer testing and lab facility where testing and production trials, ranging from fats and oils to drying and evaporation, can be conducted.
"SPX's newly expanded and integrated food and beverage processing facility in Soeborg, Denmark will serve as a state-of-the-art Innovation Center that we believe will leverage the wider spectrum of technologies and expertise derived from our leading process equipment brands: APV, Gerstenberg Schroder and Anhydro," said Don Canterna, president of the SPX Flow Technology segment. "As a result, we plan to offer our customers a testing and lab facility with a broad array of wet and dry food and beverage processing testing capabilities, along with an expanded staff of engineers and consultants. This expanded facility is part of our strategy to further enhance our competitive presence in Europe, and better position us to serve the critical research and development needs of our food and beverage customers globally."
SPX already operates a state-of-the-art food processing testing and lab facility located in Silkeborg, Denmark. The Silkeborg Innovation Centre is one of the most comprehensive of its kind in the world, offering engineering and application expertise in the field of heat treatment, membrane filtration, heat exchange, mixing, butter, blending, soymilk, bag-in-box filling and advanced process monitoring and control systems. Many of the world's leading food and beverage producers utilize and rely on SPX's test labs to conduct trials to further refine and perfect new food processing systems prior to making large capital investments in launching new formulas and products. SPX's ability to conduct fully scalable customer trials in its test facilities can aid food and beverage companies in further mitigating the risks associated with investing in new product development.
"The enhanced innovation center in Soeborg, Denmark is designed to provide customers with a robust, full-scale testing facility, while also demonstrating the breadth of our integrated food and beverage processing system assets, capabilities and expertise," added Canterna. "Most of our customers view SPX as an extension of their research and development teams because we can deliver the equipment, engineering expertise and test facilities they need to help realize their strategic visions. We believe that our newly-enhanced facility will further enhance the collaborative working relationships we have with existing clients, and help us attract new customers seeking a close, full-service partnership."
The expanded SPX Flow Technology facility in Soeborg is scheduled to be completed and operational by the end of July 2011, with SPX Flow Technology General Manager Andy Klemm overseeing its operations.
