Sprinting Santas Kicked off Holiday Season in Breckenridge, Colo.

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo., Dec. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Race of the Santas drew more than 200 costumed runners on Dec. 7 to kick off the holiday season in the mountain community of Breckenridge, Colo. The fun run, a benefit for toy charity Adopt an Angel Summit County, included a reindeer category and aid stations offering milk, cookies and candy canes. Immediately following the race, the Lighting of Breckenridge brought caroling, lighting of the town tree, a fire pit, s'mores station and visits with the real Santa.
Participants in Race of the Santas and the Lighting of Breckenridge –
- Saw more than 32,000 LED bulbs illuminate the town tree and surrounding Blue River Plaza
- Drank 40 gallons of hot chocolate and ate over 1200 cookies
- Raised funds to give happy holidays to more than 2,100 children since the race's inception in 2011
Festivities continue throughout the month with the Dec. 12-15 Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships, which kicks off the Olympic qualifying season for freeski and snowboard athletes. Fitz and the Tantrums will perform, and the Recognize film night will showcase the most notable films over the past season in the ski and snowboard industry. In addition to free spectator events on the mountain, Dew Tour brings the Streetstyle event back to downtown Breckenridge. New Year's Eve parties with fireworks and a torchlight parade will round out the holiday season.
With 15 inches of new snow in the last seven days, Breckenridge Ski Resort is offering great conditions for skiers and riders this holiday season. In town, some 200 boutiques and 70 restaurants feature made-in-Breck gift ideas and windows dressed with holiday cheer.
