Spring Has Burst Into Bloom at the 2012 San Francisco Flower & Garden Show!
FUN-FILLED ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
SAN FRANCISCO, March 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Show is officially open for fun! This family friendly event celebrates "Gardens for a Green Earth" with gorgeous gardens, cooking demonstrations for home chefs and the popular Sproutopia children's area with hands-on learning opportunities. A multi-generational event that invites everyone to "Get Your Green On", the festival is held Wednesday, March 21 through Sunday, March 25 at the San Mateo Event Center. Children under 17 FREE. Single day adult tickets are $20, all-show passes are $25, and half-day passes are available after 3pm for adults whose little ones have limited attention spans. www.sfgardenshow.com.
The lively Sproutopia for Kids space in the Show will be filled with activities put on by Kids Growing Strong™ an educational enrichment program that uses interactive exhibits to inspire children to be healthy as they learn about gardens, themselves and their environment. Each day will have plenty of fun-filled activities such as learning about dinosaur food, making dinosaur hats, listening to stories about the garden and flowers, planting seeds, making miniature bonsai, and learning about butterflies. Local elementary school students will create miniature gardens that are judged just like the full-size display gardens. Children love to explore the many garden installations from top designers where they can find fish ponds and the occasional chicken. The edible gardens provide some pint-size plants to encourage youthful farmers.
"Families have always been welcome at the Show and we see the numbers growing," said Weston Cook, Executive Producer of the Show. "It's a joyful place for children who are intrigued by the artful garden displays, the seminars for kids and the entertaining activities."
While experienced garden aficionados will be fascinated by the more than 80 seminars, the festival is equally accessible to those simply seeking a unique family outing. A Marketplace with over 200 vendors, 34 display gardens, including idea-packed small-space gardens and edible gardens, food, wine and music are among the many draws that make this an annual must-see event for Bay Area residents and their children.
The 2012 San Francisco Flower & Garden Show is at the San Mateo Event Center in San Mateo, near the intersection of highways 101 and 92. March 21-25, 10 am – 7pm. For tickets, directions and more information visit www.sfgardenshow.com or call 415-684-7278 ext. 2.
