Spring Blossoms on the Ice with New PEEPS® Zamboni® Machine for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms
Just Born Quality Confections Partners with Hockey Team to Hatch the Sweetest Zamboni® Machine on Ice
BETHLEHEM, Pa., March 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Though spring is finally here, it is still cold on the ice for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the minor league hockey team for the Philadelphia Flyers and one of the coolest companies in the Lehigh Valley that is partnering with Just Born Quality Confections, one of the sweetest companies in the Lehigh Valley. This past Sunday, the Phantoms unveiled a one-of-a-kind PEEPS® Zamboni® machine during the team's game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Just Born Quality Confections has been part of the Lehigh Valley community for more than 80 years and welcomed the Phantoms and spring to Lehigh Valley with the introduction of the new machine. The PEEPS® Zamboni® machine is unique due to the four-foot-tall yellow PEEPS® Chick nested on top of the Zamboni® machine.
The Phantoms went head-to-head with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins during the sold out game. Although the game had hockey fans on the edges of their seats, spring was in the air and the PEEPS® parade stole the show between the first and second period. The stadium cheered as the PEEPS® Chick mascot led a celebratory parade on the ice to introduce the festive PEEPS® Zamboni® machine – even the beloved PEEPSMOBILE™ went for a joyride to mark the ice resurfacer's debut. Once the parade ended, the new PEEPS® Zamboni® machine went right to work to resurface the ice in time for the game's second period.
"Just Born Quality Confections is proud to be a sponsor of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and we were so excited about the idea of hatching a PEEPS® Chick on top of a Zamboni® machine," said Matt Pye, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Just Born Quality Confections. "Developing the PEEPS® Zamboni® machine was a challenge since there is no Zamboni® machine like it and the driver needed visibility to see the ice. The Phantoms did a great job in giving this one of a kind Zamboni® machine some amazing PEEPSONALITY®!"
The Phantoms, who originally went by the Philadelphia Phantoms, have been a top minor league affiliate of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers since 1996. The PPL Center is the team's home rink in Allentown, PA.
Fun facts about the new PEEPS® Zamboni® machine:
- The PEEPS® Zamboni® machine traveled an average of three miles during Sunday's hockey game (and will do the same every game this season), which is the equivalent to the length of more than 76,000 PEEPS® Chicks in a straight line.
- When the PEEPS® Zamboni® machine resurfaces the ice, it is capable of removing close to 2,500 pounds of compacted snow, which is equivalent to the weight of more than 120,000 PEEPS® Chicks.
- It would take more than 70,000 PEEPS® Chicks to fill the snow tank of the PEEPS® Zamboni® machine.
Do not worry if you didn't get a chance to see the PEEPS® Zamboni® machine in action for its debut, because it will be prepping the ice for the rest of the Phantoms season.
