NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas, Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprechen sie fun? It's Wurstfest in New Braunfels, Texas, November 1-10. Started in 1961 to honor the popular local sausage and sausage makers, Wurstfest is the Lone Star State's biggest and best German culture and heritage celebration.

Opening ceremonies Friday, November 1, at Wursthalle kick off the party with a "first bite" sausage "ribbon cutting" at 4 p.m. followed by music and entertainment in Wursthalle, Stelzenhaus, (the new 12,000 square-foot "stilt house"), the Grosse Zelt and the Kleine Zelt (big and small tents!)
Jimmy Sturr and his orchestra, winners of 18 Grammy Awards and the #1 polka band in the country for the past 10 years, are among the many great musicians and entertainers you'll see at Wurstfest. The orchestra recorded with Willie Nelson, the Oak Ridge Boys, Charlie Daniels, and even folk legend Arlo Guthrie. They've played the Grand Ole Opry and appeared on CNN, ABC, NBC and Saturday Night Live.
Food and beverages include great German and American beers and lots and lots of sausage – on a stick, in a taco, you name it, it's there! There are the popular potato pancakes and applesauce, turkey legs, pretzels and strudel, and cultural exhibits and games, too.
In addition to fun at Wurstfest, the entire New Braunfels and Comal County community joins in the revelry with Wurstfest events all over the city and county.
This year there's also some great video tips to help you really get in the spirit of this 10-day celebration of sausage and fun:
