Spotlight Back on Bangkok, 'One Young World Summit' Confirmed for 2015
BANGKOK, Aug. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
- World's premier forum for 2,000 young leaders to discuss pressing world issues while enjoying Bangkok's world-class hospitality
- Confirmation reinforces strong international confidence in Thailand's vibrant MICE sector, adding to diverse line-up of upcoming MICE events in 2014 and 2015
The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization), or TCEB, has welcomed the announcement that Bangkok has won its bid to host the prestigious One Young World Summit 2015. As the first city in Asia to play host to this illustrious event, Bangkok was chosen among other leading contenders, including Kobe (Japan) and Hong Kong. The summit adds to a growing list of world-renowned MICE events confirmed in Thailand over the next 18 months.
One Young World is the world's premier forum for young leaders, and features the involvement of high-profile global figures who act as One Young World Counsellors, with past speakers including Kofi Anan, Sir Richard Branson, and Professor Muhammad Yunus. This annual summit gathers together approximately 2,000 young visionaries aged 18-30 from every corner of the world, who are leaders in their respective fields. Delegates will discuss pressing world issues and inspire solutions to the problems faced by their generation. No youth-dominated event outside the Olympic Games brings together more countries than One Young World.
Welcoming the announcement, Mr. Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, president of TCEB remarked that, "The One Young World Summit 2015 is widely recognized as the top forum for young leaders to discuss global issues, and TCEB is proud to have secured this landmark event alongside our strategic partner the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and thanks to strong government at all levels. It is yet another demonstration of our close collaboration with BMA, having recently also secured the Harmony World Puppet Carnival together."
"Winning this sought-after bid reinforces the strong confidence MICE stakeholders around the world have in Thailand. We look forward to extending our famous warm Thai hospitality and world-class MICE service to the two thousand delegates who will attend this forum."
Attracting events of this calibre is in line with TCEB's strategy of targeting high quality MICE travellers for key growth sectors, and further demonstrates the strong position of the industry. Other confirmed major MICE activities in Thailand include incentive travel events, such as, the Unicity Global Convention, international conventions (e.g. the 74th FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences 2014, Harmony World Puppet Carnival and the 10th International Mycological Congress (IMC)), as well as international exhibitions and trade fairs (e.g. Food & Hotel Thailand 2014, INTERMACH 2015, and ProPak Asia 2015), among others. A strong outlook for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions visitor numbers will also contribute to the growth of Thailand's dynamic MICE industry over the next 18 months.
TCEB is now working with key public and private sector partners to promote and reinvigorate the country's positive image, reinforcing stakeholders' understanding of Thailand's key MICE industry strengths: diverse destinations right at the heart of the fast growing AEC region, unrivalled business opportunities, and high quality MICE professionals and standards. Ongoing initiatives, such as, the Thailand CONNECT campaign reinforce these unique assets, while offering generous incentives and seamless support to international organisers.
