SportsManias City Summit Series Kicks Off In Orlando
Central Florida's Top Stakeholders Gather to Discuss Future of Region's Sports Landscape
MIAMI, June 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- SportsManias, the diehard sports fan's go-to-source for team news, announced today the launch of its City Summit Series, with Orlando being the host city on June 30 for the inaugural event. From 8:00am - 11:30am at the Amway Center, key Central Florida stakeholders from the world of sports, media, politics and business will gather for an in-depth discussion on the future of the region's sports landscape and the most pressing issues impacting the local sports scene.
The Orlando Sentinel is teaming up with SportsManias as the City Summit's official media partner and will be covering the event. Rick Horrow from Horrow Sports Ventures will moderate the Summit, which will feature two unique panel discussions.
The first panel, "Orlando's Pro Landscape: NASCAR, the Magic, golf and now Major League Soccer make Orlando a big-event city with big-time facilities," takes a look at Orlando's professional sports demographics, and how far the city has come over the last decade. Such topics as the importance of the Amway Center, the Orlando City Soccer Club's first season, and the prospect of Orlando supporting another professional team in the future will all be discussed. Horrow will moderate the panel with featured panelists who include Phil Rawlins, Founder and President of Orlando City SC; Alex Martins, CEO of the Orlando Magic; Allen Johnson, Executive Director of Orlando Venues; and John Bisignano, President and CEO of the Central Florida Sports Commission.
In the Summit's second panel, "Orlando's Amateur Landscape: UCF, bowls, AAU and Disney make Central Florida the place to be," Tim Stephens, SportsManias VP of Strategic Partnerships, will moderate the conversation with a panel comprising Steve Hogan, Executive Director at Florida Citrus Sports; David Hansen, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations at UCF; Mike Millay, CEO of Clancy's Sports Properties, LLC; and Marc Daniels, Radio Host of "The Beat Of Sports" on 740 The Game in Orlando. This session explores UCF's athletic transformation, the Orlando Citrus Bowl reconstruction, and tourism's impact on the region, among other topics.
"Orlando is most notable for being the home to Walt Disney World and as one of the most popular global tourist destinations," said Aymara Del Aguila, Co-Founder and CEO of SportsManias. "Orlando is much more than that, however, especially when it comes to sports. This year, Orlando City SC became the city's second pro team, Orlando hosts one of the most iconic college football bowl games in the Orlando Citrus Bowl, and UCF has been one of hottest collegiate football programs in the NCAA over the past couple years. Orlando is a great city to get the City Summit Series started given its unique history and recent rise in sports prominence."
Registration is complimentary to all sports media professionals and business leaders by emailing [email protected]. The event is also free to all UCF students with proof of downloading the free SportsManias app. Following the forum, Stephens, a former sports editor at the Orlando Sentinel and former president of the Associated Press Sports Editors, will present to students on how to craft the ultimate resume in order to compete for jobs in today's market.
Founded in 2012 as a web and mobile platform to bring diehard sports fans personalized news feeds from the inside sources covering their favorite teams, SportsManias has built on its success and expanded to create its own YouTube, Facebook and Snapchat content, and now branches out into a completely new sector with the hosting of informational events and summits. The City Summit Series will head to various locations including Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas over the next 12 months and feature similar type forums.
On August 21, SportsManias will also host the Digital Media Summit in Miami. The one-day forum brings together sports journalists, tech leaders and industry executives to talk about how digital media is changing the sports industry. Speakers include Jemele Hill, columnist and analyst at ESPN; Woody Paige, sports columnist for The Denver Post and regular panelist on ESPN's "Around The Horn;" Bob Ryan, sports columnist emeritus at The Boston Globe and regular panelist on ESPN's "The Sports Reporters;" and Pete Vlastelica, EVP of Digital for FOX Sports.
"When it comes down to it, sports are big business," said Vicente Fernandez, Co-Founder and Chief Content Officer of SportsManias. "Our platform will continue to be the premier resource for fans to get the breaking news on their favorite teams, but now these City Summits give us the opportunity to go off the field and have candid discussions with the most influential decision makers in sports about the most imperative topics in sports business. SportsManias is dedicated to delivering the news and driving the conversation, which is why the City Summits are so important."
