Sports Greats And Celebrities Sign-On For 27th American Century Championship At Tahoe, July 19-24
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. & Nev., April 28, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A blockbuster gathering of 90 major sports and entertainment stars – including Charles Barkley, Justin Timberlake and five NFL starting quarterbacks -- have signed on for the 27th annual American Century Championship, July 19 – 24 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. The 54-hole tournament will be televised live on NBC Sports and NBCSN.

America's No. 1 celebrity golf tournament will feature a host of active players from football, basketball and hockey as well as prominent artists from the entertainment world including Aaron Rodgers, Jerry Rice, John Elway, Larry Fitzgerald, Golden Tate, Brandon Marshall, Emmitt Smith, Andre Iguodala, T.J. Oshie, Hines Ward, NBC Sunday Night Football Analyst Cris Collinsworth, comedians Rob Riggle, Kevin Nealon and Larry the Cable Guy and coaches Jim Harbaugh (Michigan), Brian Kelly (Notre Dame), Marvin Lewis (Cincinnati Bengals) and Steve Kerr, now pursuing defense of the NBA Championship with the Golden State Warriors.
The tradition of NFL quarterbacks highlighting the field – started by Elway, who has played in all the events since 1990 – continues with Rodgers (Green Bay Packers), Blake Bortles (Jacksonville Jaguars), Ryan Fitzpatrick (New York Jets), Alex Smith (Kansas City Chiefs) and Carson Palmer (Arizona Cardinals).
The largest-ever contingent of six women includes two-time Olympic Soccer Gold Medalist Abby Wambach, 2013 Women's World Long Drive Champion Heather LeMaster, aspiring LPGA player and Golf Digest cover girl Paige Spiranac, NHL on NBC host Kathryn Tappen and Golf Channel hosts Lisa Cornwell and Blair O'Neal.
In addition to defending champion Mark Mulder, previous winners include former Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien and actor/singer Jack Wagner.
The 2016 American Century Championship (July 22-24) is scored with a Modified Stableford format and features a $600,000 purse with $125,000 for the winner. In addition to high-stakes competition, the tournament will raise money for the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, a non-profit, basic biomedical research organization dedicated to improving human health by studying the fundamental processes of life. Regional Lake Tahoe non-profits also benefit from the tournament, which has raised over $4 million for charity.
