Sports Gear Bags announces innovative designs for the new TOP KIT© sports gear bags for endurance athletes

SALT LAKE CITY, June 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sports Gear Bags, Inc. announced today completion of design, testing, and submission of the patent applications for the innovative TOP KIT Sports Gear Bag line.  Athletes and enthusiasts who carry gear for sports like mountain and road biking, marathons, triathlons and gym workouts will now have compartmentalized top-entry gear kit bags designed specifically for their sport.

"No more do bike riders, runners and those going for a workout have to endure the hassle of using a duffle bag with long clumsy zippers to throw their gear into a single compartment where it gets lost or ruined," said company founder Brad Carroll.  "Expensive gear is broken, clothing contaminated and small pieces of equipment like glasses and gloves get lost when you use duffle style bags. We expect that this new design will be embraced by athletes and possibly create a new product category.  It is not a duffle bag, it is a compartmentalized, top-entry kit bag designed specifically to organize gear for each type of sport."

TOP KIT© Zipper Assembly

An extensive international state-of-art patent search determined that the zipper assembly, which is constructed of a proprietary internal frame, a designer opening handle that attaches to both zipper sliders, and a moveable flap that opens and closes with the handle, is eligible for a utility patent.  The color-coded zipper assemblies allow the athlete to remember which piece of gear is in each compartment.  Other features of the TOP KIT bag include six external attachment panels where a variety of pockets and water bottle holders are secured to the bag according to the athlete's preferences.

Three Sports

The TOP KIT© Sports Gear bag brand will initially consist of kit bags for three sports.  The first is a four-compartment bag for road and mountain bikers.  This style of bag has two large compartments for helmet and shoes and two small compartments for clean clothes and tools.  The second bag will be for runners and triathletes. This style has four equal sized compartments for wet and dry gear, shoes and nutrition. The third style of bag is a two-compartment bag for gym and yoga workouts.  All bags have internal pockets for phone, wallet, keys, nutrition bars and small items along with the modular external pockets.

Product Engineering and Availability

"With the design completed, the bags are currently in the engineering phase of development," said Carroll. "We are selecting materials, designing plastic parts, sourcing accessories, and will conduct reliability testing before moving into production in October of this year."  The current development and release schedule has all three bags being released for international distribution at the January 2014 Outdoor Retailers Show in Salt Lake City, UT, and The Sea Otter Classic and The Interbike bicycle industry trade shows in 2014.  However, web sales and distribution to local sports shops will begin in late 2013. Retails prices for the bags will range between US $90 and US $140.
