DURHAM, N.C., Sept. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On August 25, Kate Fearn was named the winner of Spoonflower's [http://www.spoonflower.com/] Vintage Christmas design challenge in collaboration with Commonthread [http://commonthread.us/], a DMC lifestyle brand that uses DMC's world-renowned textiles to create innovative projects for modern makers. Fearn's winning design, "Vintage Christmas," will be licensed for an exclusive collection of customizable stockings to be sold this winter through Commonthread by DMC. Fearn, known as Petite_circus [http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/petite_circus] on Spoonflower, also received $350 in cash and a $100 shopping spree to Commonthread by DMC and $350 in Spoondollars.
The month-long design challenge invited participants to create a design specifically for Commonthread by DMC in the visual theme of "Vintage Christmas." Fearn's festive design featuring birds in a retro design style garnered the most votes from a pool of over 300 unique entries.
"I'm still in shock to be honest," shared Fearn, "I'm so excited to be licensed by Commonthread and to have my fabric made into Christmas stockings. I can't wait to see the end result–it's always so much better seeing your work on products and in use than as flat artwork."
Spoonflower's design challenges give designers of all skill levels an opportunity to submit an original design and compete for a chance at career-changing exposure. Since 2009, Spoonflower has hosted over 310 design challenges, each with an entirely unique and original theme. The challenges inspire new designers to improve their skills and test their creativity, and have helped form the backbone of the Spoonflower community itself.
Fearn shared, "I love designing patterns so much, and being part of the Spoonflower community is so lovely alongside looking after my son. At first, designing was just a fun, little challenge, but it's turned out to be a change in career direction, or an expansion, rather, for me. I love it."
