DURHAM, N.C., June 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On May 26, Inga Girvica was named the winner of Spoonflower's Design Challenge in collaboration with BucketFeet, a shoe company that manufactures limited edition footwear featuring designs by artists from around the world. BucketFeet will use Girvica's winning design, "Under the water," to help build a shoe collection raising awareness about the environmental impact of rising sea levels on ocean health. Girvica, known as Lavish_season on Spoonflower, also received $250 from BucketFeet and $150 from Spoonflower, a licensing contract for the run of footwear, and a pair of shoes featuring her winning design.
The month-long Design Challenge invited participants to create a design specifically for BucketFeet in the visual theme of "Oceans." Girvica's aquatic design featuring sea urchins garnered the most votes from a pool of over 506 unique entries.
"This challenge featured so many talented artists with beautiful designs. I was happy to get to the round of 100, and I didn't expect to win," shared Girvica, "Now I am stunned with a victory, and I'm grateful for each vote for my design."
Spoonflower Design Challenges give designers of all skill levels an opportunity to submit an original design and compete for a chance at career-changing exposure. Since 2009, Spoonflower has hosted over 300 design challenges, each with an entirely unique and original theme. The challenges have not only inspired new designers to improve their skills and test their creativity, but have formed the backbone of the Spoonflower community itself.
"The secret to a strong collection is the ability to have a curious look on the world, keenness, an alive heart and a desire to communicate with the world," shared Girvica.
